Scholarship Category and Application Requirements


The applicants must be non-Chinese, in good physical and mental condition, well performed both academically and behaviorally, and between the ages of 16 and 35 (Chinese language teachers in post can be under 45, while undergraduate students shall not exceed the age limit of 25).

Bachelor of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL)

- Graduated with a high school diploma

- HSK Level 4 with a minimum score of 210

- HSKK Intermediate Level with a minimum score of 60

Maximum Four Academic Sessions

*Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)

- Bachelor degree or its equivalent

- HSK Level 5 with a minimum score of 210

- HSKK Intermediate Level with a minimum score of 60

Maximum Two Academic Sessions

**One Academic-Year Program

  • Chinese Language

- HSK Level 3 with a minimum score of 180

  • TCSOL

- HSK Level 3 with a minimum score of 270

- HSKK certificate

  • Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy

- HSK Level 4 with a minimum score of 180

- HSKK Intermediate Level with a minimum score of 60

Maximum Eleven Months

***One-Semester Program (Commences Sep. 2018 or Mar. 2019)

  • TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy

- HSK Level 3 with a minimum score of 210

- HSKK certificate

  • Taiji Culture

- HSK certificate

Maximum Five months

***Four-Week Program (Commences Jul. or Dec. 2018)

  • Taiji Culture

- HSK certificate

  • Special Four-week Program for Confucius Institutes

- HSK certificate

- Organized and applied for by a Confucius Institute with    10-15 participants per group.

  • Chinese Language plus home-stay Experience in a Chinese Family

- HSK certificate

- Organized and applied for by a Confucius Institute with    10-15 participants per group.

- Detailed study plan to be made after consultation with    host institutions and submitted to Hanban for approval.


 * Preference shall be given to applicants of MTCSOL who are able to provide notarized document of employment agreement or related proof of future engagement upon completing study in China.

 ** International students currently studying in China are not eligible to apply for the One-Academic-Year Program.

*** Only applicants who have never studied in China are eligible to apply for the One-Semester Program or Four-Week Program.
